This guy will be a lead roo this year. It took quite a few birds to get to him and he's still not perfect, but shows potential:

They could be. But isn't that how most chicken "breeds" start? My guess is IsbarXsvarthona.

Blue Swedish hens are fibro BBS birds that lay green eggs. I had a weak moment, bid on an auction I didn't need, and ended up w a trio of them, lol. They're nice birds, and striking to look at. Also, I think there are some South American breeds of fibro birds that lay blue eggs. They look...

Hey Pyxis. I'm still in NY, lol. I found that it's not too complicated to ship eggs to Canada. Especially when Ag & Markets already comes out once a year for NPIP certification. Just a couple extra tests, a vet visit, and a health certificate.

I only have 4 cemani hens and now 3 of them are broody. The third one does not even have any eggs under her, just broody in her empty nest. Crazy birds.

Inbreeding decline has been studied in chickens and found that after too many generations of inbreeding, the hatchability of the eggs severely declines as does vitality of chicks. It is tough to say for sure if that is what your friend is experiencing without knowing all his incubating &...

That color banding is really beautiful! It could be diet related or the stress of being an 8 week old chick. The feathers look healthy, tho, so I wouldn't worry about it.

My broody AC growls and then pecks at my hands. I use it to her advantage by putting soaked bread in my hand which she picks up & eats. I worry about broodies getting dehydrated & thin. My other broodies go into a trance and won't touch anything I offer them by hand. Crazy birds.

The idea that someone in Europe would claim to have American lines of Ayam Cemanis makes me smile. Especially with this breed which we appreciate the opportunity to have European lines in our flocks here in the US.

I just separated my cemanis from the rest of my flock today. In a couple weeks I'll increase their daylight hours and then do a test hatch. They basically had the winter off. Speaking of winter, even tho I had been putting Vaseline on my roosters comb, I noticed today that he's got some...

If there is one thing I've learned about this breed it's that you cannot expect perfection. It is very possible those are pure cemanis. Aside from the one with the splayed leg, the others don't look that unusual. The thin short down is actually a good sign bc a feather inhibitor gene is...

Guess I shouldn't b surprised that a gamey breed went broody. Surprised tho that she went broody so young. And she is so determined. It's going to tough to snap her out of it.
