How old is she. Mine is 24 weeks now and no signs of a red comb or any changes that would mean an egg is on the way. I think my LF had combs by now.
(Oh I just looked back and saw you said they were 6 months) Guess I have a couple more months to wait!
That is how Maleficent and Grimhilde were. I don't know of a good way to resolve that problem without causing a lot of stress to both chicks.
Do they get to free range? Maybe that would help as they get to know other birds and explore.
Maybe Sally will fit in with the big girls. An...
I wonder if they are just loner birds? They do have quite an attitude.
I am pretty sure my granddaughter fell on or grabbed Maleficent wrong and hurt her. She was not an easy to catch bird.
It was as if her legs were dislocated and she may have had internal injuries too. I nursed her for a...
That is so sweet. My girl had a sister and they were partners in crime. They tormented all the other chickens, even the LF girls. I named them Maleficent and Grimhilde after the Disney evil queens.
After Maleficent passed, Grimhilde is a loner from the others and now she will let me pet her...
Yeah, watch the combs. I have known girls that get all riled up and act like boys fighting. They even raise their neck feathers like boys, so you cannot go by behavior. The comb will tell you with Sebrights.
Now I have Wyandottes that will fool you. Out of six Columbians I know I have 2 boys...
This is one of my Silvers, Grimhilde. Unfortunately, the other one, Maleficent, was injured and I am not sure if she will recover enough to get around on her own.
20 weeks old
Hey there, said I would post some pics of my Buff Laced Sebrights when they stopped looking so ratty. Well, they finally are looking like Sebrights and I got a somewhat decent shot of a couple of the girls. 12 weeks old tomorrow.
At one point I wasn't sure they were going to lace, but now...
SOP calls for them to be less than 20 oz. They are not good layers or brooders. They can be difficult to raise. I have a great broodie girl and still lost 2 out of 4 chicks. If you want to raise them read up on their fertility issues. Once grown, I think they are plenty tough.
The Silver...
Oh my gosh, not another loss! I am so sorry. The little guys are pretty bold. I have some Buff laced chicks and the boys are only 7 weeks and sparring and trying to crow! Wish you were closer. I cannot have the boys and they have to go soon.
Oh no, I am so sorry! I understand they can fly pretty well with the small bodies and large wings. I have considered clipping wings, but cannot bring myself to do it.
that is true, they just lay eggs and get fat. Mine cannot fly either. They never seem to get friendly even though my g-daughter and I are at the cages a lot.
I have a hodge-podge of laying hens and several types of bantam chicks I recently ordered from a hatchery. I like bantams and wanted...
I will post when they start looking better.
I have quail too. Texas A&M and brown courtunix. They are not likely to sit. I know of one person who said theirs sit, but she had a hidden dark place to sit. I personally think they are too close to wild to sit in captivity.
Mine has some mottled...
