this is what 38 dual purpose backyard mix birds look like. Wow whata hatch. Started with 56 eggs, went into lockdown with 42. Hatched 38 with one still thinking about surviving that piped through its yolk

had 35 chicks running around the brooder when I left for work this morning! the one that piped the wrong end looked like it had piped through the yolk???? huhhh still had 6 eggs in the incubator I expect to candle and pull the last few quitters tonight, just in time to refill the brinsea ovation...

29 out so far this hatch, have one upside down pip that I am watching and 5 or so normal external pips that may be out be morning... out of 56 set so far I am very happy

ok I lost count! I did see 2 yellow Nn one black Nn, and 2 full feathered blacks amongst a sea of yellow, oh and a few more external pips!

One Nn out of 8 that have hatched so far!

sounds like you did everything you could!! now is the hard part the waiting!

well they may be internally piped just waiting to externally pip.... I have had hatches as late as 2-3 days after day 21 and been fine. Dark shells are hard because it is difficult to candle and keep an eye on the development. how did your air cells look at lockdown???

remember that when they pip on the wrong end they are making an internal pip(witch we do not usually see) and an external pip all at the same time so it may Feel like it takes forever for them to be ready to move to the next stage of zipping. the time from the internal pip to the external pip on...

so looks like we have One muscovy.... out of a dozen.. I have a friend that lives locally that I will be trying to get some more eggs from. but still one is better than none.... just saying

wow this thread is really moving! I use the rubber shelf liner myself... just to feel a little more in control and to help with clean up. I had a batch a chicks due yesterday but they still have not come out!! huh incubator must have run a little low>>>?????

we went through and pulled clears last night... out of 56 set we had 4 early deaths and 10 clears.... the rest look promising!

we did a candle on the easter eggs last night pulled 3 blood rings, had 3 more that looked questionable and 8 that could be clear but DD decided to only pull the blood rings for now... out of 56 not bad.. . Muscovy look like we are down to 5 that are still wiggling??? time will tell

We moved eggs around to be ready for lockdown this upcoming Thursday. While we were candling I discovered that one of my muscovy had quit.... poor thing. I think that leaves me with 8 still growing

I sell most of my "extra" ( or what folks want even if I thought I wanted to keep it) through word of mouth. its amazing how many folks know me as the crazy chicken lady... I was just over at our feed store "rescuing" a chick that they thought needed a little tlc and one of the customers...

Finally saw some veining today... set a week ago last Thursday so 10 days? Huh. Had a few that were definitely clears and an early quitter. I am hoping for at least a trio?

How long till you see development when candling muscovy eggs? I had some shipped eggs that I set a week ago and last night when I candled I didnt see much?
