Hi all. I’m currently still over in Allen parish, but in the next few weeks we’ll be moving to Haughton. It all happened very quickly. I need to regime all of my farm. I have a few goats, about 40 chickens of various ages and breeds, and two small flocks of ducks and muscovies. I can’t deliver...

I was thinking walker hound, and my neighbor said the same when he came to pick her up. He’s a cattleman and his elderly dogs have all passed. She’ll be a good fit for him.

Two new broodies. :barnie Marilyn, the cochin, has already hatched once this year. The black pullet only started laying last month. This dog showed up on my road two weeks ago. She was thin but now I can see her ribs, so I’m feeding her. I’m worried she’ll follow me home and get my birds.

Yes or yes? The eggs were donated to the camp in February from a lady who had lots of breeds running together. I ended up with 7 babies and they’re laying now. I’m getting white, green, and one black eggs. So they could have bred true, or they could be mixed. I have a pair that looks pekin, a...

I haven’t had others to compare. They give nice big off-white eggs pretty often. And these haven’t been broody. I don’t keep good track of who is laying how often.

They were castoffs from a breeding project byc member @ChicKat was working on. She gave me a gorgeous roo and several nice hens, with two being Isabella leghorns. I have one hen and one offspring left from her. I met her halfway in Texas.

A pic of the chaos crew. Goatlings are 6wks old! Ducks and most chickens (except Isabella leghorn, splash cochin, and hona cock) hatched mid-February.

I haven’t had any birds that laid tear round except some ex-bat hens I picked up at an auction. They were super sweet to me, loved to be held and cuddled. But they ate nonstop and beat up the other birds.

My fav breeds have been speckled sussex and svart hona. I try to keep buff Orpingtons and australorps around for the kids. Silkies don’t do well here for some reason. And I don’t love the polish either. I had a light brahma but she was the lone survivor of a raccoon attack and was so wild and...

I also love EEs. I went a few years without any and got to missing them. TSC the other day had amerecauna pullets, so of course u had to get a few. I also love banty cochins. They’re just fun and funny. I had one last year who basically lived in the brooder. She raised three clutches of babies...

Depends on the mama. My broodies this year are FIERCE and have fought snakes away from their nests. I don’t think the flock as a whole views chicks in the same way they view weak members. My first batch this year was adopted by a roo who apparently has a thing for single moms. He raised the...

I’ve seen on fb that folks are having trouble. I have a mystery death in the yard. It’s slimy all over. I caught the calf sucking on chick tails yesterday, so I think she crushed or suffocated it. Usually a snake it’s only slimy on the head.

We don’t get them like others do. Not sure why. I don’t specifically do anything to prefect them... maybe our bat population? We have bad mosquitoes periodically. Fowl pox gets pretty bad.
