I haven't been here in a long time. I'm retiring from having chickens and have all my stuff for sale on the sale thread, if anyone is interested. I'm in Guinda, Yolo County. Have a mobile coop, incubators, hatcher, exhibition cages.

Quote: This has nothing to do with the company wanting to protect their investment. I don't care what brand you use, as long as you use the correct amount to kill mites without contributing to resistance. Here is a quote from an IPM site. Using rates lower than those recommended for a...

I am way behind on this thread, but I have some important information regarding the use of Spinosad. Please read this entire post. I'm concerned about this product being used incorrectly, which will cause it to no longer be effective. Here is information on the label of the Spinosad product that...

Hi, Welcome to BYC and the Nor Cal thread! I've seen photos of Dru's flock in Woodland. They do look nice and that's why I mentioned them to people here that were looking for that breed. I'm sincerely glad that you are happy with your flock and feel satisfied with what you have received in...

I'm very sorry to hear that. MG is one of those things that is spread by wild birds. So, if your birds free range or are exposed to wild birds at all, they are at risk of being exposed. I have posted my experience and opinions on this a few times. You can search through my posts to find it or pm...

So sorry about the illness. Definitely have a necropsy, so you know for sure what you are dealing with and how to proceed. I read that MN has banned poultry shows due to AI. They may not be allowing birds to leave the state. That would effect your order.

I've wondered about that photo. Can you explain it to those of us unfamiliar with it?

Do the roosters all have their own place to go at night? I feel so bad, having to keep my males locked up. They start out together as chicks, get separated into bachelor pens when mature. I cull down to four breeders of two breeds. Once I separate them for breeding or showing, I can't put them...

So your vet and vet student know more than the FDA? Baytil has been a drug used for poultry for a long time. This is not the case of it being an off label use. This doesn't have anything to do with organic. I'm only going to say this for people's information. I'm not going to argue about it...

Once you have given a chicken Baytril, you should never eat her eggs or meat. Baytril is banned in use in poultry because it causes antibiotic resistance in humans. This is a serious issue and should not be ignored. http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/RecallsWithdrawals/ucm042004.htm

I don't know what causes the head shaking, but I see it briefly from time to time. I notice in shows that a lot of chickens do it. I wonder if they get water or crumbles up their nose? I know crumbles was causing sneezing one time, which stopped when I switched to pellets. Mites might be the...

The distributor for Oxine is very good about discussing the product with customers. I've received answers to questions in less than a day when I've emailed them. Their directions are often contrary to what you find written by people who use the product. So, I always check with the company to...

Nice place to live. Welcome! @ronott1 and you hatchaholics, I have a question. I set eggs late on the afternoon of Sunday March 22. So, I count Monday March 23 as Day 1, correct? I'm trying to make sure of which day to move them to the hatcher. I downloaded 2 apps to help remind me...

Where are the rose pictures? I love old roses. I'm trying to grow some but they have to be hardy to make it in my yard. Do you ever take cuttings? I'd love to buy some old varieties.

Trisha, it was so nice to meet you in person. I appreciated hearing about your breeding practices. Your dedication and hard work is paying off. When/where did they give out the first & second place ribbons? I didn't see those. Sorry to have missed those of you who were there and the OR lady...
