We have 12 female African geese (and 12 males). They have laid over 200 eggs so far this spring, however only ONE girl has gone broody and that was 28 days ago (she has a couple of eggs that have internally pipped)
Is there som,e way to promote broodiness in these other girls??
As of yesterday, this shared nest had 11 eggs, and one other nest had one egg. In addition 2 of our 3 pekin ducks have started to lay, and we have chicken eggs in the incubator.
Molly hatched out 5 kids, 2 were sold to a lady up near Wisconsin Dells. She's got Albus and Adele helping her with the kids which I named Aberforth, Wulfric and Ariana. She has been known to steer close to the road, but I've learned a trick to keep them away. Take a big colorful umbrella, stand...
Re: Angel Wing.
In case anyone needs to know how to wrap a goose. I saw the post about how to wrap a smaller duck, but thought I'd share this experience for anyone who needs it.
So here is Elsa (I know, let it go ) she is a little over 6 weeks old. The right side was showing an impressive...
It is with a sad heart that I announce that Sissy, our favorite goose several days ago. Here she is with David . We hatched her 2 years ago and she really bonded with us. She was blind in one eye, but got along well. She hatched out 5 goslings last year, but had not laid an egg yet this year. We...
I've mentioned this before on a few posts. Sweet Pea is a 2 year old African Gander that gives us 'kisses.' He'll come up and nibble on your bottom lip. As you see here, Dave is getting kisses from Sweet Pea. I've been trying to get a video of this for a while now, since I've got one friend that...
See the two in the back? They are African/Toulouse cross. Apparently the Toulouse is dominant genetically with this group. Albus is in back, and he's the Gander. Adele on the Right is the girl. She's got the more mottled beak. The only real way you can tell they are cross breeds is the strip of...

I let out the geese this morning to find 3 of Percy's girls had made nests and were laying eggs. They usually lay one every other day. I didn't want to get too close, and it was difficult to even get this close with Percy behind me freaking out. It's kinda hard to recognize the girls...
Sissy laid a few last January, but they froze. Then she got all busy and laid more in March; hatched at the end of April. Molly laid hers in May and hatched end of June. I guess it's not all wonky....
This just goes to prove that what you learn about an animal is *sometimes* true but not all...
You see here Eleanore; Ellie for short. Ellie was one of this years' gals and she's been laying eggs for about 2 weeks now. It's the usual laying schedule for a goose, every other day. But it's the wrong time of year, isn't it? The first time I caught her broody, I thought she was brooding a...
well Sissy our one-eyed gal is a Mom! That is the first gosling next to her. She has another under her wing, and one more hatching. We're so excited for her!
LOL! The Days of Our Ganders. We are waiting for the girls to show their personalities so they get their names. Harry Potter has some odd girl names and I am wary of naming one of these gals 'Nymphadora'.
The twins, George and Fred are 'meh' about them. Percy seems to want to be Daddy as he herds them closer to me. Ron wants them away from his girl, Sissy. It's Buddy who chases them the most. And if Buddy had accepted the gal we got for him, he'd be too busy to chase them. Buddy is our Toulouse...
we have 6 new gals here. They are about a month old and this is one Gal's idea of drinking out of the pool.
Sissy is sitting on 12 eggs. We thought she would never go broody. She took one look at the gals outside one day and headed for her nest.
Our only issue we have is that our boys like to...
