I personally have never seen that. Was she like that when you got her ? Almost looks like she's been inked. My boys had dark green ink at the top of their beak area that lasted until their combs came in, but my girls didn't have combs at that age. I can't imagine you causing it though. I would...

The only thing for sure, and for me its a dead give away is...the full comb and wattles. Especially at 16 weeks. Now about the crowing, every thing I've read says that between 16 and 20 weeks crowing means that they were matured and could mate. With that said I feel that this breed has a good %...

Thank you. Never could stand to be away from these mountains for long. Ya the roos will crow in the morning but they are quiet the rest of the day, at least mine are. I truly love this breed

Oh ya !! looks like you have one who has its comb and wattles matured and not the others. Its been 13 week for mine and the boys (2) have had theirs fully developed. and the girls (4) still have not. How old are yours ? Because one cockerel started crowing at 9 wks., and the other the next week.

From what I've gathered from all my reading, 20 weeks and up. But you may wish to switch him to meat bird feed when he comes off of chick feed.!?!? This is my first time with chicks and I have 2, 9wk. old cockerels and if I can't find a 4-h er, who may want the spare one, I'll be doing the same...

5 days ago I started to here an odd eeeeoww sound early, early in the am. It took me 3 days but I found out what it was.... One of my 2 cockerels at 9 weeks old has decided to start to practice his crowing abilities, and I know witch one it is. The thing is that its not the one I was thinking...
