Nice watered grass and weeds, cucumbers and all the dropped tomatoes they could eat.
I had to pack my container garden into the greenhouse last night as the weatherman predicted a good hard freeze every night this week. So i took down the fence to move the containers and the chickens have...
Plums, yes any kind of fruit is consumed with glee. And you don't have to cut them up, the chickens will poke holes into them. If they are a little reluctant at first cut one in half they will get the idea.
A little at a time. The ham has salt. While the hens do need salt in their diet they don't need a huge amount all at once. 1/8 C (a coffee scoop full) per bird once in a great while should be ok. I would cut it up into worm shaped strips or run it through a food processor for ease of...
Some really old yogurt from the back of the fridge mixed into the fermented feed.
The loved it, i didn't stir it in too well and there was a few small lumps and swirls in the feed. The chickens picked the yogurt out of the FF all they could. Then polished off a full days worth of FF before...
Stewed until they are soft chicken bones.
I roasted a chicken and sliced all the meat off. Then put the carcass into the crock-pot and let it simmer on low overnight.
When it was cool i de-boned the chicken and had a cup of meat for recipes and a pile of soft bones, skin and cartilage...
Sorry about your roo.
Sigh, Wish i lived somewhere with a long growing season. My chickens enjoyed the very first watermelon of the summer. And no they didn't get the meddle i did. Had the first light frost of the season last night so had to pick the watermelon so it is nearly the last...
I make sure i have a lot of beetles so i don't have to buy more meal worms. The chickens will eat the beetles just as quick as they eat the worms. In fact they will eat any life stage and the dried up dead ones too.
I am trying to increase the numbers in my worm farm and have saved out a lot...
Fish from the freezer. We had a big 5 day power outage and i had to 'get rid' of a lot of the fish. So i steamed up the fish and made fish dinners for chickens. They got a large dish of fish today and i refroze the "dinners" for later.
Wonder what it says about me that i am freezing...
I believe the bread is bad for ducks thing is about ducks in parks. The get NOTHING except white bread and its not too nutritious.
The same for chickens, as a occasional treat it would be ok. But not as the main course.
Their first people food treat. Leftover oriental fried rice with home made KFC chicken. Well the bones.
They loved the rice and most of the veggies. Had to warm up to the mung bean sprouts. Loved the breading from the chicken but took a couple hours to figure out the bones.
My chickens got a quart of Fermented fruit. A mix of fruits; peels, cores and trimmings used to make vinegar. First batch of the year.
They loved it. No there is no vinegar in the fruit. I just soak the fruit a day or two until the water bubbles. At that point the fruit is fermented. I...
Mine got out and i found them in my container garden mowing the grass between the containers. I sit down in the lawn chair and watched them for a while then decided that a couple pots should be moved. When i moved the pot there was a swarm of earwigs under there. The earwigs were gobbled up...
My chickens got a rare free day outside of the run. They scared off the chipmunks and cleaned up all the spilled seed under the bird feeder, wiped out a anthill, found a wet spot and fought over the angleworms and ate lots leaves off weeds in the yard.
