Are they fawn or fawn & white? If I remember correctly fawn x fawn gives fawn. I know it is the case with fawn & white. Anything that isn't fawn will be from the black call.

Genetically, penciled are homozygous dominant, fawn & white are homozygous recessive, and the heterozygous condition is blue fawn penciled. Breeding penciled to penciled can't produce fawn & white. I do agree that fawn and whites do very much appear to look like whites as ducklings until...

From my penciled runner pen I have gotten 2 yellow ducklings. I have no white ducks that are old enough ti breed. Any thoughts where the yellow ducklings came from? The pencileds are from Holderreads. Going to have to look up runner color genetics.

My runners lay shades of green and white eggs. Hens in same variety lay different colors. Other breeds were used to create new varieties. That is where the different egg colors come from.

ringaring, Haven't had an issue. My penciled hens (3 of them) ended up with a community nest stealing eggs from each other. They hatched 9 over 9 days and all hens care for all of them as best runners do. My hens would leave the nest if they thought you were looking at them. My gray hen has been...

The blue fawn penciled ducklings are growing very guickly. Seems they were just little fuzz balls yesterday and now they are getting feathers.Excited to see what this variety looks like. Didn't have any fawn & white females so I did the cross to get these to make more fawn & white from them.

From what I've seen in my part of the US white and black are the most popular. They are followed by penciled and fawn & white. The other varieties are rare. The rarest are the non accepted varieties for show.

Flappers, Penciled is a variety where the hens' colored feathers are laced. In the pic (if it comes through), there is a fawn & white, 3 penciled, and their blue fawn penciled offspring.

'Tis the life of runners. When mine were in the brooder they would come up and "nibble" on my fingers. Now that they are in the barn they run wildly if they think I am even looking at them.
