Thanks for the kind thoughts. I have a dozen chicks that just went outside last weekend and the first 3 of 27 in the incubator just pipped! I'm holding my breath though.

I texted with Tumbleweed last week, she is in and out of town but not doing chicks at this time. Sounded like she might be leaving :( . On the other hand Coyotes got my flock this winter and I am looking for fertile eggs or chicks, CCL/Orps or pretty much any large fowl breeds if anyone has...

All of the adults in my flock got wiped out by a dog, my juveniles survived because they were in a separate aviary. Since then my son had a secure chain link fence installed that should keep his husky outta my chickens! Have I mentioned I don't have much use for huskies? My wife has been trying...

These are my two silkie babies, they have been in the brooder for two weeks now. Any idea whether they are pullets or cockerels? And yes 702marine either one or both is yours! If you are still looking for a silkie that is.

Hey Tumbleweed, do you sell hatching eggs? It would be great to get some locally rather than ship them in. I have two Golden Cuckoo Marans Roos in with 3 GCM, 3 BCM, 2 EE, and 2 OE hens and they just started laying.

I bumped up the timer on my automatic watering system so that the bowls and buckets overflow a bit. The girls all scratch out areas to lay down in the damp soil. Additionally all of my waterers are on the east side of something so that they are shaded in the afternoon.

I got a nice surprise this weekend. These two girls had been setting on a big ole pile of eggs and I thought they were past due. I guess not. As of today there are six of the little fluff balls. So far all of them have black skin and 5 toes.

Pullets show up on our local Craig's List and Nellis Feed out at Nellis and Craig area sometimes has them. You are missing the most addictive part of chickens by by-passing the baby chicks in the box fun! That's what got me hooked, it is a bit of work but not overwhelming. Have you checked out...

Apparently my Rooster Reduction program is having some effect. It seems like months since I had gotten any eggs but hopefully the girls are back on track!

It's not my cat, I am pretty sure its a feral. I have set food out for it now and will probably try to trap him later.

My egg production had been highly variable all summer and has dropped to abysmal now what with the shorter days and the molt but I had also been finding shells indicating and egg eater. I tried every trick I could think of and had thought a time or two that I had caught the culprit and isolated...
