here are a sample of my april hatchlings, duccle ones at least (i also have silkies and speckled sussex) more are due in 2 days. what gets me is i still have a few 'sticky chicks' although i switched to a sportsman cabinet!
i am getting a colour variant from my TRUE d'uccle to d'uccle...
time at temps is also a factor-so you couldnt incubate them successfully at that temp, but *according to my thermometer* in my lg table top i got spikes in the 105-111 range a few times, now the 111 was what it was when i got home but not when i left 5 hours before, that killed more than half my...
102 will not cook them, their moms body heat is higher than that, worry if it gets to 105-107, your should be fine. how long they spend at the higher temps may make a difference on development if a critical protein is denatured.
anyone ever given bantam eggs to large hens? i am worried she may step on them but have uk blood chocolate orpington that has decided to go broody and have more than i need in bantam eggs.
HELP!! what to do with malpositioned AIR CELL?? two of my shipped eggs have their actual air cells moved to nearly the bottom-but not the bottom-otherwise i would just flip them. these are about half way developed---what to do?? i REALLY dont know how they moved there either-they are on an auto...
i recently got a SQF cabinet-sportsman 1502, off ebay (non auction price) for 842$-that was with shipping and 6 trays included (although doing bantams i have had to order pheasant tray ones for some of mine-their eggs slip right through). i used the paypal credit (not the credit card) option -so...
try hatching the in OTHER colours than mille fleur! they have lots , lavender is real neat but sometimes have the 'growth lines' and thinner tails associated with the colour gene. not enough people have mottles or blacks. golden necks are also somewhat popular-but so many of these (all the...
didnt have many hatch, out of my 14 mille fleur leghorns 3 eggs hatched, i had to help one and it died later. of my 27 d'uccles I had 7 hatch. of the 12 sizzles, 3 hatched -one is an amazing silver or lavender, cant tell yet. here are some pics.
lockdown tonight>>> candled and threw out obvious quitters, two have reduced veining-not sure if they are quitting so kept them in. so out of 12 mailed sizzles, 7 made it to lockdown, out of 14 mailed mille fleur leghorns, 5 made it to lockdown and out of 27 d'uccles (home grown) 10 made it to...
liquid skin is best because it has some antimicrobial properties, at day 18 most commercial eggs are pierced at that end by a needle to inject the vaccine, it should be fine but still apply the liquid skin. i wouldnt go gungho thougn, just apply it along the cracks
i currently have a really cracked egg -its rare so i need to try-that i put into the incubator with liquid skin applied--and it is developing!! its a lavender silkie
he closed it soon after right? opening it is not a problem unless its for a longer time, remember momma gets off the nest for at least 10 mins a day to do one incredibly large and smelly poop, get a drink, chow down some grub and if she can she will squeeze in a dust bath.
oh yeah, a quick...
well according to the manufacturer it is 270, 6 trays on 3 racks. but i got 'universal chicken' racks that were made by another company, so i can do (6X48) 388. i wont do that since i have a small yard, but i may offer hatching to locals to warrant keeping it running. these newer models are not...
i set a tray of eggs today in my new incubator-48. i am not pretreating them , i want to see how well this baby does by itself. i have 7 speckled sussex eggs from ebay, 14 silkies from my stock and 27 d'uccles from my stock. i did move some already incubating into it as soon as it was stabilized...
i just took the plunge 10 mins ago and bought a GFQ 1502 cabinet, i am so disappointed in my poor hatch rate with my tabletop, and wonder if some deaths are result of poor stable temps and cool/hot spots-how much better do they do?? (who can tell me personal stories of their switch to the 'big...
i have gotten home with my eggs from the post office and pre soaked them this time in ascorbic acid, i am setting them double stacked in the same table top incubator as the ones for the easter HAL. there are 12 sizzles from mail, 14 millie fleur leghorns from mail and the rest (27) from my own...
