Hatching and grow out were both very challenging this year. Too much rain and humidity for this area.
We lost Napoleon a couple weeks ago, she got into something. We never did figure out what... did a charcoal flush on everyone. It appears...
I've not seen that. My best guess would be absorption and position of the baby. If it hasn't externally pipped I would at least make an air hole, since it's full term.
as you approach hatch day one side of the air cell will start dipping... that side will be the top when you stop turning... not critical right now
gray vs buff is supper easy as soon as they dry... usually before then Think dark night vs bright daylight easy I've never been able to sex...
I use 99F and 20-25% for incubating.. 60-70% humidity for hatching Don't expect to see development until day 7-10. Personally mine do better if I don't candle them until after day 6.
It has been a rough year... not all bad but busy.
first round of eggs went into the bator last night.... Now to see if the boys are getting their job done.
My dewlaps are laying, but it's been to cold to have the pools out. The ducks and Embdens are being slow. Weather is suppose to warm up in a couple days so hopefully that will do the trick. Incubator parts will be in this weekend.
Sometimes, the bird world is not as good here as it should be. Much better in southern Missouri, I take a couple batches to a swap down there. Geese so far do ok up here. I have one cayuga... she had a very ruff time as a baby but she's very pretty. I'll ha
