I agree. At 19 weeks old the comb and wattles should be a lot bigger. There is something odd about the feathers but they may just be odd feathers. @dnitzman Do not give up hope yet!

No, black sex links are not going to become roosters--they look very different by gender at hatch. cockerels\rooter will be barred: pullets will be mostly black with some color at the neck: Your BA is not one that is hard to tell. The comb and wattles are a bit large for 14 weeks...

@dnitzman Can you get a better picture of the comb and wattles? At 13 to 14 weeks old, a BA cockerel should be crowing. Do not give it away until it crows. If you get into week 22 without crowing, you may just get an egg.

It is great to have you here! Is your boy crowing? BA Hens have very large combs and wattles so they are often confused as roosters. Check with a local feed store--they either take rooster back or will know of a place that will take them.

Hi and welcome! I am in Woodland, close to Sacramento. Hatching eggs can come from far away places but packing and shipping can be hard on them. Local eggs are good to practice with. You can get fertile eggs from Trader Joes and whole foods. I like the Genesis 1588 for a starter incubator...

Looks like a nice place. I am from Tehama County so I have not heard of Bodfish. It is very far from there. Post pictures!

Things are getting un evenly worse. The Central Valley is very bad with a life expectenc of about 75. The Coast near Silicon Valley has much lower crime and a life expectancy of about 85. It is a have and have not thing. At least we have our chickens!

That is terrible! The rules for Fireworks are County Based. The rules I posted yesterday are for Yolo county. Shasta and other Counties do not allow the sale of Fire Works at all in their Counties. None of that stops people from modifying "safe" fireworks or getting illegal fireworks from...

Here they can't be sold until seven days before and they must be closed by the fifth. It is a great way to work the sales. All sales are for Charities and non profits. We do have some bottle rockets and etc. but non so far.

The Pene eggs do have nice spots sometimes. I like the very black circle on the ends too. The purple does come from the Bloom. Those are the eggs that hatched first. I have some developing from the pullet that lays the lighter speckled egg. Hopefully the darkest laying pullet will be fertile...

Ok, the picture is ready. They have been laying since December so they are getting pretty far into the laying cycle. The eggs are still a nice color but have lightened up a bit.

I do, Brand is in with them and a hatch mate. I have hatched some of the eggs. Brother and sister mating is even for genetics. Next season I will be able to work on improving. One of the pullets is very nice and the other two are nice. I will get a picture of the hatching eggs I collected...
