I have the little chick waterer (with the bigger base) in the rabbit cage with them, but I also have 2 rabbit bottles for them. The ducks use all three within hours! All the chicks get are a couple sips and a bath from their water loving friends.
I couldn't bear to watch him, so I helped him. The membrane (I think that's what it was) was really tough, so that may be why he had trouble. It was defiantly ready to come out. Poor thing, tho. I think it's head is cramped from the position it was in, cause it's having a little trouble keeping...
Ok. Do you have a heat lamp? It needs to be around 100° in there for them. And you lower it about 5° every week. If they're too hot they'll pant and probably spread out. If they're cold the cuddle right under the heat
I think the red fluid is ok. My ducks' egg shells each had a little blob of gooey nasty greenish stuff (sorry, that's morbid).
So you have how many eggs in there? And so far 2 have hatched? They probably won't eat for a while because they absorb the yolk, which "feeds" them all they need for up...
Well, 6 littles crawling all over hatching eggs isn't exactly ideal. They were sleeping on and off, but I didn't want to have to worry about them squashing pipped eggs.
Awe it's so cute! My little ducks are resting all over the eggs and each other. I had to move the chicks and 3 of the 6 ducks to the brooder because they were being so spastic!
As long as you do it super quick they should be fine.
I moved the 3 chicks and 3 ducks into a brooder, but left he newest 3 ducklings in jncubator.
Aren't ducklings the cutest?!?
