good luck with the hatch\
This one gave me hell to get a picture where ya can see it, this is one of the favorites that hatched out at the farm last week. Mom was Buff Orpington dad not sure if was BR or RIR
hoping the others get in gear here, day 21 started at 7 am this morning
first one pipped and hatched about 4 hours ago, 37 still in the incubator
coffee nor gatorade is helping much, but watching like a hawk for temp spikes as thats what killed my last hatch as they were hatching
grats on hatches everyone, one day 20, hoping we don't have a repeat of last time, checking temps every 15 minutes, and before morning will probably just stay there, so far starting to see a .2-.4 temp with slight humidity increase without adding more water in, 7 am will be start of day 21
well Amerecuana got off the nest and hasn't been back on in in 3 days and nobody else wanted to brood them a week into brooding, and incubator was busy
Leghorn is still brooding 6 eggs shes at half way point
Buff started brooding yesterday 5-6 eggs while we weren't watching where the barred...
so Far so good, lock down has started and had some minor fluctuation when turned off the turner but don't think half a degree will bother them
pulled 4 of the questionaboles, have several that seem to be behind the majority, any ideas on that?
l
That little black one thinks it's evil kenievle, drives the momma hen crazy with it's antics then goes and pecks her lol. They were moved by friend to the insulated shed. They are starting to feather out 4 days old.
Lock down on bator in the morning pulled 4 eggs that were early quitters
ok final report on BR broody, hatched 11 , 1 died first day after hatch, eggtopsy preformed 3 internal pips dead in shell 1 clear and 9 early deaths
she got off nest this morning and took the live ones out for a bit but took em right back to a safe place with 2 roosters and 16 other hens
we are keeping an eye on that, but we didn't give her the eggs, and she is keeping an eye on the first ones hatched yesterday, they are eating and drinking in the box and cannot fall out. we check about every hour
because everyone contributed and she kept accepting them and wouldn't let us take any out , she finally tossed 6 eggs out and brooded 24, 11th one hatched sometime late morning today
I wouldn't try messing with a broody especially her first time brooding on how many chicks she was gonna sit...
the Amerecuana has 6 eggs under her and the other 4 are community brooding 7 eggs lol
Got em numbered and pull anything that is new which in 3 days hasn't been an issue
wait until the ones in incubator hatch and get moved out, the chicks will out number the flock, gonna get some mesh for the old run so they can't get out through holes, that outta do the trick I think
They gotta be moved not enough room for her and 23 chicks in the box for long and with 5 other broodies in there everyone else is moving out, The roosters won't even go in the broodies kicked their behinds.
well once she finishes hatching as she did it in the coop we are moving her to the insulated coop then we could add a heat lamp if needed. The day olds are out exploring already. then snuggling up next to here only time they are getting under is to sleep, but the nest box is also buried in...
