Thanks all, I will tell my husband the responses and next time we are at TSC will pick up the PDZ again. I cannot wait until the one they are building about 6 miles away is done!

Is there any reason why we shouldn't be using kitty litter instead of PDZ? My husband bought non-clumping Paws and Claws kitty litter at TSC and we are using that. Anyone had any trouble with this?

Nono- that was the same thing we had to do. Our dirt is mostly clay and with all the rain we had it just was smelling awful. As soon as we raked it all out and put sand in ( about 4 inches deep) it got so much better and is easier to rake out.

I'm confused because I thought someone had said they were using clay kitty litter along with the PDZ in the coop. I ran out of PDZ yesterday and had my daughter pick up a bag of kitty litter to get me by until I can get to the tractor supply store. I don't want to use it if it is going to be...

Bamachicks- twins don't run in my family, but there were triplets in the family, so I figure I got lucky.

I'm going to have him make the suggested 24" wide. I've got a lot of poop over the edges and my kitty scoop doesn't fit in some places. He's on board with it now since he's been doing most of the scooping during the school year.

We made our poop trays only 18 inches wide ( husbands idea not mine) and this spring we will be redesigning our coop. Live and learn, it's all good. Since we will be adding at least 6 chickens to our flock we will need more roost space anyway.

It's been freezing here in mid-state NY for most of this Winter and I think the PDZ is great! I have had to use a metal scraper a couple of times to loosen the poo from the bottom of the poop tray, but the PDZ is still doing its job to make things easier and sweet smelling!

I'm in mid state NY. The poop trays are working great for us, we like the granular better then the powder PDZ . We are trying the deep litter method for this winter, not sure how much I like it yet. Should I be shoveling out the pine shavings every so often or just let it go and add as I need...

I have been using the PDZ for several months and it is the best thing going! A co-worker was commenting to me about the noise of the flies in his coop and couldn't believe I didn't have a fly problem in mine. There is virtually no odor coming out of it either. I am extremely thankful to the...

I put mine right in my compost tumbler every day and give it a turn. Already had to empty it once and put it down in the compost pile.

One of my girls is still using the poop board as a place to lay her eggs. But at least we always know where to look now. The other 3 that are currently laying use the nest box. Silly girl!

Our first egg, laid today, was found on the poop board. She cleared away the PDZ and laid it right in the corner of the L.. Isn't this a strange spot to leave an egg, we have very nice nest box for them, with egg decoys.

My DH had the brilliant idea of removing our nest box from the coop and then seeing what the girls do. Well, he was spot on! Without the nestbox in the coop, they are all on the roost together. So apparently it was a preference to roost on the nestbox. We will leave it out for now since they...

My new girls are about 3weeks younger then my original flock. For 11 chickens we have 8 feet of roost. Trisha you gave me an excellent idea....we have an empty corner where we can put a temporary lower roost for the new girls. I'm concerned that they will end up having a leg problem if they...

We love our PDz poop board. Our problem now is the older girls won't let the new girls on the roost. So the new girls are roosting on the community nest box we have, that has a sloped lid. I am thinking that we need to make another roost over the nest box for these girls but I don't want it to...
