Well, this little nugget hatched yesterday & is the offspring of my first two barnyard mixes!
(The parents)
So far, the chick seems to have a slightly domed noggin - his parents didn't have that. I'm excited to see if the new chick develops a fuller crest than the mohawks his parents have.
@AmyLynn2374 Oh my goodness, he's so big! LOL I only have the 1 regular sized chicken (my Sumatra hen), so I always forget that my flock is basically the toy chicken flock. My little d'Uccle has a similar shaped comb (not as big) and the very tip of one point got it. I think it happened while...
He really does! He's the only one with a huge comb (I'm guessing that's what happens when you cross a v-shaped with a rose - it's split into a v at the back). I'm so pleased that I found this thread and it made me decide to try hatching my flock's eggs. I love it when I'm not lazy and do my...
With March coming up, I thought I'd share what my first two barnyard mixes look like now. They'll be a year old next month & I'm extremely happy with how they turned out. Thank you to everyone on this thread for helping me during the their hatch & while they were chicks. Seeing how well they...
Memnoch certainly thinks he's something to look at, that's for sure! LOL I am still very proud of how they turned out, even though I had nothing to do with it! :D
Just wanted to share this here since this was the thread that inspired me to hatch my barnyard mixes back in March! This is Odysseus(L), a Silver Sebright and his son Memnoch(R), a Silver Sebright/Golden Laced Polish mix. I haven't been able to get them this close to each other since Mem started...
Thank you. If someone would have told me a year ago that I'd hatch and fall in love with 2 chickens, I would have asked them if they were high. Animals! They just work their way into your heart. :)
So, my 2 barnyard mixes are just over 3 months old now and I thought I'd share their progress here since I'm super proud of how they're developing and don't really have anywhere else to share them.
Both seem to have taken the size of their mothers instead of being bantams like their father...
Thank you both so much! If my hens were more reliable layers, I would definitely sell eggs! :) I've been trying to come up with a name, but nothing has stuck yet.
That comb surprised me, too! I wasn't expecting it to get that big; I was hoping it would be the small rose comb that his sire has. But I think it suits him pretty well! :D I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I decided to hatch them, but I think they turned out very pretty.
Holy smokes! I can't believe how fast my 2 mixes have grown! They're just over 2 months old & are monsters! They are almost as tall as their father & they both feel heavier than all the adults. They also have thicker legs then their parents. Memnoch is noticeably larger than Mercury now & im...
They look bigger than they did yesterday to me! Also, I discovered that Memnoch is developing a split at the back of his comb & looks to be heading towards a comb that'll make him look like he has horns. It has been so crazy to see how these 2 develop.
They did get big! LOL I was surprised to realize that they weren't tiny fluff balls anymore, even though I've been watching them grow for the past 2 months. And thank you! Pretty sure it's just a regular cold, but since I'm still recovering from car accident trauma, it feels like the worst cold...
Update on my 8wk old Silver Sebright/Golden Laced Polish mixes: they are ornery.
This is Memnoch.
This is Mercury.
I apologize for the state of my face. I'm super sick & had just been woken up by Memnoch's velociraptor crowing. They are finally too big to fit in the palm of my hand...
