Hello,
I recently inherited a lone peacock who we think is about 2/3 years old. He has been fine for the last six months but over the last few days he has stopped eating, become less responsive to us, fluffed up his neck feathers and seemed really 'wired' as if he was scared of his surroundings. Two days ago I also saw him 'scrapping/bashing' his beak on the ground, although I haven't seen it again since. This morning I found a yellow poo.
He is a free-range peacock and we are currently having a lot of renovation done on our house. The day before these symptoms started the builders erected two large scaffolds on the house, near to his roosting tree. They were also using a very large crane-type thing which he apparently had a near miss with. There have been a lot of people and cars in his space and instead of his usual wandering he spent yesterday just sat in one corner of the yard.
Do you think stress could be causing these symptoms? Or could it be something more serious? The crane wasn't here yesterday, and all the builders are gone today as it is a weekend and he seems a little better. Still not eating but more responsive to us and wandering around a bit more.
I'm a beginner with peafowl so any advice.ideas you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
