7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

700

Thank you (am a little early, but need to deliver chicks new years eve-ish)

Ok, so i just gave the incubator a second ince iver w bleach water and used qtips to get in all the little crevices and spaces w my turner (took foreeever). Turned on the bator and got it to temp but now all i smell is faint hot bleach!!! Am i going to kill the eggs w fumes? Its faint but still noticeable. I know eggshells are poreous which is what worries me. I was planning on candling the shipped eggs tonight and provided the aircells are ok, set them with my swede eggs. Advice please!!!!

***Excuse the spelling. Using cellphone and typing too fast***
Bleach is a short lived product--It stops working very quickly so it will not kill the eggs.

It just smells bad is all.

Is it bad that I forgot to turn the eggs I'm saving to hatch?
It is not terrible but can lower hatch rate some and may make them a bit less vigorous.

You are already ahead of the curve though since the eggs were not shipped. You also were able to control flock health which is a huge factor.

Well, my faverolle eggs are all intact. And ALL are porous. Air cells are difficult to discern (im using a maglite until i buy an actual candler light tomorrow). I checked my swede eggs too, and only one is not porous. Not sure what to make of that. Stored cleanly, and clean nesting area with no visible soiling of eggs. I hope i get some viable chicks. Not sure what to do to help w that, other than keep really super clean technique like i try to do anyway.

They should still hatch fine.

Watch the air cell development--You might need to increase humidity.
