New York mini chickenstock 2016

OH !   Trouble (White Marans) has to be the daddy on this one !    Can that happen in a few hours?   I thought fertilization happened the day before when the egg was moving down the hen .....No question of the pen being secure - you saw the pics of the egglu and run .... no one got in or out in over 2 months ....

So - I'll owe you some pure AB eggs next year !   But man - if this turns into a hen for you - you should have what they call emerald eggs - so a pretty vibrant green color - and big - and lots !  Since the AB is a production layer .....

The others that hatched look like pure ABs for sure. silver grey looking. No worries! This little chick has some great coloring, I'll be hoping for a hen :)

I hope it keeps its cow-like spots - that would be a really cool looking bird ...

Yeah - you see on the others how they have an almost silver fluff sheen to them ... pretty cool - but they do grow out of that - too bad :)

So, 6 of my Welsummer eggs hatched and I gave the chicks to the 2 broodys in the coop. The Mamas' have sat side by side sharing babies.. they are very content!

I'll post pix when I can figure out Windows 10

Metella the ABs' are growing like weeds but still very skitish - is that the norm for them? They don't want to be held or even touched!

So it's a crudy day for me. All but 3 eggs quit. 2 Marans from @Metella and a Guinea from @Pyxis. I'm very upset. This is worse than losing a hen. At least my hens get a good life . I never even saw the blasted babies.

Oh no :( Do you think it was incubator troubles? So sorry :hugs

You may want to order some more keets to keep the little keet company. Ideal is shipping them now and has good prices on them.

I'M GOING TO COOK MY 9 YEAR OLD!!!! IT'S NOT ME IT'S NOT THE INCUBATOR!!!! IT'S THE DARN KID PLAYING WITH STUFF !!!!! Oh my goodness, I love her but right now I want to choke her. I have 2 incubators running, both still air both have turners, both SHE HAS BEEN MESSING WITH SINCE DAY 1!! I just busted her.

Bos - the AB's are not cuddle bugs like orphs or millies - but they aren't as skittish as leghorns or game hens ... kinda an inbetween - and they always circle my feet outside - just scuttle away if I reach for them .... As peeps - they always seemed to match my other peeps -but I"m not a holder .... I don't pet my peeps - just watch them - sometimes pick up one that is being bad. :)

Caught with her hands on the controls ! Go get her .... Kids ... ha

My Sister-in-law who won eggs finished with 12 hatched, 1 already passed and 1 still might pass. The 10 remaining are Easter Egger, Catskill Homesteader, Welsummer, and a couple other mixes. They are adorable. The poor hatch rate was frustrating, but hopefully these 10 make it to integrate with her flock.

Ugh, that's rough. And tough to know the best way to deal w her, bc it's great she has interest. I prob would've done the same thing as a child, not been able to keep my hands off the bator. Still as an adult I have trouble with that, lol. Good luck. Better hatches in your future, I'm sure!

For my chickenstock hatch, 27 went into the hatcher. Most of their incubation was done under broodies & I had an issue w the hatcher getting to temp as I was moving them, so did not candle much prior to going into the hatcher. So far 9 have hatched & 3 more have pipped. Looks like one of the ones that hatched might be a blue silver spangled bird! Fingers crossed and breath held.

Edited: just re-counted 27, not 22 eggs went into hatcher.
