What do you want dark eggs for?
I don't know why Dan likes them, but I think the color diversity is really beautiful. It gives me a warm & fuzzy Easter feeling, but better because the colors are so natural looking.

Yes.. it was even worse when Vixyn figured out the dog door and let himself in at 6am and stood next to my side of the bed honking..Do you guys ever wake up with 3 dogs crammed against you in bed & a cat laying ON TOP of you & think, "Things are really starting to get outta hand."
No.
I don't like cats and I wouldn't let dogs in the house...................now chickens, well that's different.
That's why I like the different colored eggs too!I don't know why Dan likes them, but I think the color diversity is really beautiful. It gives me a warm & fuzzy Easter feeling, but better because the colors are so natural looking.

Ah, I understand now. The rest of this lot are too drunk to put the animals out a t bedtime. Not since I've been sober.

I reckon another intoxicant is probably responsible for the fascination of multi colored egg collections.
I'm completely flabbergasted about the criteria people use to choose chickens. The guy here who decided to get Marans, rather than the local breed which are far better suited to the place, chose the Marans because James Bond eats Marans eggs.
I suppose there isn't. It's strange because many other places do have local or landrace breeds and I tend to assume that this is normal everywhere. America has it's game fowl though doesn't it. I don't know how long they have been there.
Im not sure there IS such a thing as a "local" breed here..
I honestly don't know... I'll do some research on that tho and let you know what I find..What breed if any did the native a

Did the native Americans keep chickens? I know South America has landrace breeds that go back for many years.
Best of luck on that! I hope it goes well..I've been talked into giving a talk about chickens at the local civic center. I've got a translator, as in a person.
We were going over some of the terminology yesterday and loads of stuff just doesn't translate.
I'm taking my chicken sounds recordings so it's going to be a complete circus.
I wish I could send you some BCM hens..I'm always completely sober, but I think I killed all of my braincells prior to having kids & they never grew back.
I would like to buy chickens based on the color of their eggs, but more often than not I have to buy autosexing birds because of the rooster laws & how hard it is for us to give up the boys. I'm not sure how we're going to handle adding birds to the flock with the VND issue. We are luckily not in the euthanasia zone (yet) but are only about 15miles south (as the crow flies) from the quarantine zone.
