You could name the 2nd batch with "C" names...then next "D' names....kinda keep track of them that way?
That is if you plan on naming them! lol

Yikes-- the brain is taxed. I'll get some pictures and solicit suggestions... there's only one barred chick in those three and two of them have crests...they are in the TwinOne family. Tomorrow maybe some photos of those three...they are about a month behind Barbara, Bart and Pearl -- hatched 2/26 and 3/2

Yay -- does this mean that your early morning wakeup call will be lessened?

Bet that you are glad. they look great. What a fantastic tractor. !! Jim (Gem) looks like he grew a half a pound while he was waiting for the end of his sentence. LOL

Your babies are beautiful. So glad that you posted those pictures!!!

He's so majestic! I've never had a rooster with such a lovely tail. Mine always seem to lose theirs, I hope he doesn't. Jep is a sapphire, he's the other roo I'm keeping. Structurally they're very similar. I think we talked about him when we met? In regards to his crest and comb.

Amethyst and the black EE are the only two dusting up, but Jim is quick to get in the middle and break them apart. I think they'll transition well.

Topaz is in there, too, but she was too busy picking grass shoots to pick fights.

The legbar hen grew out in the tractor so she remembers how to get up the ramp and into the loft. Sometimes it's difficult for grown birds to navigate. I saw a nest dug out in the hay, so someone went up there today.

Okay -- time to think about names for the next 3 right?
Here's what an Isabel with one cresting gene looks like in my bunch:

This pullet has barring -- so even though she has a crest -- she will probably go into the breeding program. For my group - the crest will be discarded. The ones that CJWaldon is working on will probably retain the crest for the Legbar look to match the Cream Legbar....

Crested one on the left -- pullet that hatched a bit later in the center and the male on the right. These have different parents and grand parents than the Barbara, Bart and Pearl.
I'm thinking that the females both have barring and the male doesn't. What good luck once again. These three have Twin 1 as the father. Since Twin 1 and Twin 2 had the same parents (they weren't twins actually, just full brothers) Their genetics were so similar that it didn't make a lot of sense to keep them both -- and Twin 2 had a bit better type -- but they really could have been twins since they were so similar. These three will be housed with and treated just like the offspring of Twin 2 which are now in the incubator.

Acting like they have never ever seen foof before that moment

The crested girl showing off the barring in her neck hackles, back and above photo her tail.... and then the camera battery went dead. So if any names come to mind for these three -- let me know,

Here's the pullet without the crest...but I think she is barred too....

and for some reason-- they just love to go inside -- maybe because they can go in and out at will -- or maybe it is very novel to them -- but they will go in side something -- Old mail box, pet carrier -- something and tell secrets to each other or something. And then the camera battery went dead as a doornail.

Meanwhile -- this morning -- a new arrival. Two -spilts that are, I think, females were hatched and this little tyke couldn't get out -- It looked like he got glued to the shell and you can kind of see the brown on his back that is some of the membrane. House rule -- don't help them hatch because that is their first big task in life -- get out of the shell....however if they are glued into the shell due to something I did (incubator too wet? incubator too dry? didn't turn eggs often enough before putting in incubator?--especially now that the turner is broken in my Brinsea..... This chick is Isabel, the chipmunk stripes are so indistinct I think it will be barred. The white surrounding the eye make me think male...and it is one of Jack's chicks...and I really like Jack's 'type' -- so I'm ultra glad to have this one on the team....

Nearly a full day younger than the two sisters -- He spent the whole day sitting on a pillow to be boosted closer to the heat source and looking like the grand Puba of all time -- but his name is 'Sliver Jackson' for sure....

How fantastic to have that well dreamed of smooth transition.
OH yes -- you started the jewel names -- --- That 's the source!

ETA - I love your tractor. Very very cool!

I had light splash/lavender orps from an auction that I called Opal and Iris. They looked like big clouds floating through the yard. You definitely need an Iris. :)

Good idea, and speaking of Iris, a friend dug this up last year -- from the woods and this year it bloomed and now I think I need about a dozen wild Louisiana Iris -- and one nice tame Iris that is a barred Isabel!

Thanks! DH built it for me a couple years back. It's perfect for breed pen, growout, isolation, quarantine, etcetera. It's pretty heavy, but isn't too hard to move unless the tires are flat (like today). :/

You told me that Amethyst was with a rooster before she came to me but Opal wasn't? It was interesting to me that the eggs labeled "Robinson" were 7/9 isabel, and the three Amethyst laid here were all splits.
