WOOHOO!! Congrats! Pointy green egg- so pretty! We giggle when we get pointy eggs and 'bonk' eggs (perfectly round).I got an egg today!!! I'm so excited!!!My girls haven't laid an egg in over 2 months! Now if I can figure out who laid it! It is a blue/green color (online auction color chart 0ac158) . It is pullet sized and a different color than my 3 yr old EE has ever laid. It is also a different color than my Cream Legbar laid before stopping for the winter. I do have 2 Lavendar Ameraucana's so it is possible that one of them laid it. Oh, the mystery of it all!
Mu husband and I did the drops. I grabbed a chicken, lifted a wing and found bare flesh and he did 5 drops (if I recall right) on all the large ones. 4 on the smaller ones. Thanks for the clarification!
Pour on can't go into the water--It is oil based and will not mix. The injectable is water soluble. The Pour on is applied directly to the skin. Zooweemama did it last fall. I just use the Ivermectin. Mine are all getting it now.

Poor thing! I hope she gets better soon!thanks - i am thinking of doing this, although i'm afraid i'll use too much of the powder, since it's 1/4 tsp for 4 cups of water, so it would just have to be a little sprinkle on her yogurt? has anyone ever done this?
update: she did eat almost all of her yogurt today, and there are one or two poops in her pine shavings now -- but she's still very hunched/tail down. eyes not closed as much or as go-away-leave-me-alone as yesterday, and she did make a few weak noises at me today, barely-a-chirp sort of sounds -- but not really getting *better*, either. i bet she's lonesome, too.

Need some brilliant ideas!!
At the ranch in Clayton I still have many birds until I''m able to ship them out and I'm sure the pipes have frozen (We have them wrapped etc, but still I'm sure they probably are frozen...)
So not having had to deal with this before, what would you guys recommend??? I don't have hot water there and it's 30 minutes from my house so carrying a bucket of hot water out there (while that just sounds like a back ache waiting to happen) isn't going to happen.
My birds will be out of there in a couple of weeks, so I don't want to go to the expense of order warmers etc.
HELP!!
Hi everyone, Sunny and I are in Mount Shasta - Siskiyou County (State of Jefferson). We moved here from the Bay Area (Marin) in May 2005.
In our first 3 summer seasons we have expanded our outdoor storage, built a workshop, a greenhouse and a fenced garden with seven 2' tall raised bed boxes. The garden is growing nicely and with power run to the greenhouse, we should be able to have our starts growing earlier next year without losing them to freezing temperatures.
The next-door neighbors and the folks next to them both have chickens, and it's been so much fun helping with their chicks we decided to get our own. So last week we came home from a store just north of Medford with 10 chicks.
It's really interesting to move from the suburban lifestyle of San Rafael to this part of the state. I do understand that this is not as rural as California gets, but it's probably a good transition.
Anyone close by?
What is it with people in hatcheries /farms who don't like to return emails? Its ..warm and indoors!
Did anyone here do the hatch a long last year? If so do you know if they took 1 chick or 0 chicks for worst hatch?
I was afraid of that. Dick Hortsman ships in a similar terrible way. His were all wrapped in Newspaper and put into egg cartons. When I asked if Urch shipped ok, I was told that on the BA thread that Urch had been shipping eggs for 30 plus year and he knew what he was doing. I am getting eggs from the guy that said that so I hope he does not ship using sawdust...
