My Blue Wheaten (my avatar) finally layed an egg today after laying only 3 eggs for the year 2015 (last August). With all the possible thread advice of what might be causing her lack of laying for so long, I'm happy and relieved that it wasn't lice, mites, worms, peritonitis, internal egg-laying, or the multiple other well-intentioned suggestions of why she took so long to start laying again. I was relieved she wasn't ill - she's just not a prolific breed and I got some nice lovely patient advice from non-BYCers that these girls can take very long breaks. I don't mind since these girls really put out very big eggs when they do lay! I'm just curious as to how many she'll lay before taking another long break!
2.3-oz blue Amer egg, 1.75-oz white Breda egg, and 1.25-oz tinted Silkie egg.
Sylvester, I don't think it's the breed/variety, I think it's the line. Mine have been very good layers, my two year birds even laying sporadically through molt, something I don't see often with my other variety.
Glad she started up for you though.
