Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Oh, not good. EE's never have yellow legs, they should be greenish.

I've set "watch" on your thread and will follow her progress.

Persephone was the last of my original 12 gotten in June 2012, she died March last year, nearly 10 years old. She was still laying the prior summer.

Right?! They are from Hoover's (see link below). You can see that their EE don't look like typical EE and even the baby chicks in the website photos have yellow legs.
We will see I'm not too picky. I'll love them no matter what. But colored eggs would be nice!

(BTW I got all 3 chicks from a lady on Craigslist who orders the chicks from various hatcheries and sells them to people who aren't able to order hatchery minimums)

Hi! I'm not sure where the appropriate place to post this is, so apologies if I'm in the wrong spot! I was wondering about Splash Ameracauna coloring, and if they darken as they age or if it's evident early on what amount of splashing they'll actually have. My Mom ordered some from Cackle earlier this year and she's a bit concerned they won't have any markings, and I don't know what to tell her. She loves their poofy cheeks and how tame they are, so she won't be super duper disappointed if they aren't as colorful as she was expecting. But for how relatively expensive they are, I'm hoping there's a chance she got some flash in her birds. Picture attached.

She bought them liking how they'd match her blue merle Aussies and Painted Desert sheep. She's certainly got a type!

Those almost look like self blue (lavender) ameraucana. Most splash chicks have some form of splashing early on, given the uniform coloring of those babies and the lack of any splashes, I'd say she didn't get splash ameraucana, but got self blue(lavender). She can look at the breeder directory at ameraucanabreedersclub.org to get splash chicks from reputable breeders if she still wants splashes.

I don't have a really good picture of my blue hen or of the three BBS babies. They are all too zippy to get a good picture!

Your blacks look nice, hcammack! Don't you just love the irridescence of the feathers? They look like walking stained glass windows!

What part of North Texas do you live? I'm in Denison.

They do not look self blue. Self blue or lavender is a very light gray chick down. They look like a very light splash.
