I had bantam salmons for 8 years. Last year my husband was ill and I had to sell my flock. It worked out well because one friend who bought some of my birds, also bought my incubator and he is hatching some out from my birds and giving them back to me to get started again with my own stuff. We picked his birds together so I know what he has. Am anxious to get them back again. I had great success with showing them, a couple of starred wins with reserve feather leg. Their meat is tremendous, super temperments. My friend, Pete, has some that set. I got a trio of whites 2009 hatching season, but I sold them, tho' I had prayed for 8 years to get them. But my husband was too sick to dump grain, clean pens etc. and I am disabled so...I had not choice. If you haven't had a fav yet, you will love them. You can put other birds or chicks in with them and rarely is there a fav that will attack. In fact rarely will they attack you. They have adorable faces and amazing personalities. I sold some of my fav books when I was discouraged but there is some great stuff out there. The club is a bummer and no longer active. Perhaps its time we form a new one! I'd be glad to help people with questions etc. Ihad two great people get me started, Rose Isgrigg and Dick Boulanger who along with Peter Merlin were the "keepers" and defenders of the breed in the US. Dick went to England several times and brought birds back and saw what the birds were like. Rose went on a tour a couple of years ago and saw tons of them . She brought eggs back but didn't hatch much if anything out. Lets boost salmon faverolles, they deserve it. They lay well, are beautiful, and taste good.! ginny

Welcome to the thread! I am getting eggs from Rose Isgrig this week

I have some birds from Dick's line even though I wasn't able to get birds or eggs from him directly. When you get your original birds back let me know if you want to trade eggs. Let me know where I can get fav books because I NEED some!

So, Cornelius won 1st (of two roos) at the Stockton show, and was bought (*sniff* I'll miss him, he was very sweet as a lap rooster) by someone in Quincy, CA.
He looked very nice at the show, all was filled in but his beard, and his type was sufficiently better than his neighbor's to overcome the beard. It turns out he LOVES to have oil rubbed into his comb. He practically moaned, lol.
BV (Best of Variety)and BR (Best Reserve; lol 2nd best of Variety) (I just learned these so figured I should add them) went to the first and second place hens. There were so many cochins and so few favs that those two didn't have a chance at higher placings. I saw a mottled Cochin to die for

I will stay on this thread with the LF fav girls, and LF boy when we get one. Thanks all for being here!

...Speaking of shows and show birds... when I brought up Blue Salmon Faverolles, a breeder said there is too much risk of getting a Splash when breeding blues. I don't recall seeing that here. Are there splash salmons? or just splash Favs?

Might be neat, even if I couldn't show it.

Congrats Laurieks on your show results.

I will try and get pictures of the babies today. Well here is my splash salmon from Nikki. I think the color is beautiful he now lives with another member on this board. I wouldn't use him in breeding but he is making a great pet! I haven't heard any complaints about getting to many splashes. They are birds that should be sold a pets though I think:

Here he is

Put me down for a dozen of those Dutch Belted eggs, too, LOL! (Do you think my goats would incubate them?!?)

My chicks should be here tomorrow -- my mother and step-father will be at Cloverleaf Farms place this afternoon to pick them up. I'm very excited, and my daughter keeps asking when they'll be here (she's almost thirty, but mentally like a three-year-old -- and she thinks the chicks are for her!)
