Best Pet Goats?

If you are looking for just pets, I would advise against the full sized Nubians. Mine can clear a 4 ft fence without touching it, and can propel themselves of a 5' on with very little trouble. We had to go all the way up to 6ft for them to stay contained, and they still get out when they really want to.They are also (from my experience) very vocal. They start screaming when they hear our front door open, no matter what.

I also have a pygmy that can squeeze through anything. 8in wide chicken pop door? No problem. She squeezes her little barrel belly right through there, even if she has to rock back and forth a little.

No matter how much I complain about them, I do love those little buggers. I call call them my oversized dogs. It is the funniest thing in the world to look out my kitchen window to discover all three of them have escaped and are lounging on the deck. In the summer, we open up their gate an let them roam the back yard to clean up the thorn bushes. They are really good about staying in our yard, although that have been known to travel into the neighbor's woods. It gave the Fedex guy quit a scare one year when he got out of his truck and three "wild" goats came running at him looking for treats.

Here is our little pygmy

and our boer/nubians

An here is the day we discovered they could fit through the 12inch wide pop door that we built for the chickens to freerange (we then made it 8" wide)

and finally, here you can see our fencing that they still get out of
