Thinking of getting Nigerian Dwarf goats. Thoughts and advice?

people usually trim the hooves themselves. Its not super hard but unless you have a milking stand, someone has to hold them down. You just have to keep on top of clipping them or its way harder to trim them and if it gets bad enough they founder
I have one more question. Is it better to get adults or kids when starting out?

Do you trim hooves yourself or have to use a ferrier?
I always trim hooves myself, it’s super easy once you get the hang of it 😊
You’ll definitely want to buy/build a stand though, it makes milking and hoof trimming so much easier, especially for one person

It’s pretty much up to you, but keep in mind that people don’t usually sell their good does, so you would potentially be purchasing a problem/cull doe if you went with adults. With kids it takes longer to get milk of course, but you get to experience that cute baby stage and train them how you want 😊

I don’t know if I said this before, but I would recommend buying from a herd that tested negative for CAE, Johnes, and CL; that’s what most buyers will be looking for, and it’s easier to start with clean stock than it it to get rid of those diseases
