BREEDING FOR PRODUCTION...EGGS AND OR MEAT.

Hope you can get that chart up.

This has been a great line of discussion.

I love this thread as I is meaty. I am always learning and love the wisdom shared.

I decided to keep both cockerels and see what they do before I cull...

Ah...changing of the clocks each Spring and Fall...what folly. We do change our clocks to be practical but like many others, we pay little attention to where the hands are on the clock but instead, we operate on Dairy Goat and Chicken time.

The chickens, dogs and cattle can be a bit forgiving despite the barking and bawling and of course, the birds always have feed of some sort but the dairy goats WILL be milked on time or there will be hell to pay....They become obstinate and surly, won't let down if one tries to milk them too soon and will drip if the milkers are just a bit too tardy. They like change even less than I.

Yup! I call it "sun time" as opposed to clock time. The critters don't give a flying leap what clock or calendar says. They go by when and where the sun rises and sets.

I grew up in Indiana, and moving out into a state that does the daylight "savings" silliness was a bit of a shock and annoyance. Now, Indiana joined in on the silliness, so parents and siblings grump about it just as I do. Only my brother still does not mess with it in Arizona.

It used to be April and October ... now? It isn't even the equinox and we just messed with the clocks.

It's always been my notion that by simply 'splitting the difference' and letting it stay at that could work for all concerned but there is little or no common sense amongst the "Powers that Be".

I have been told it was intended for the safety of school children and to promote more sunlight both going and leaving. Too many child obductions? Whatever the cause, a farmer has no say so, the animals dooo! Darned roosters dont look at the clock.

No time changes here in AZ, for which I am very grateful. My "smart" phone didn't know that though. I woke up at 6:50 AM yesterday but my phone said 7:50 AM. I thought I'd overslept an hour and began racing around doing my chores, wondering why it wasn't sunnier outside, and then looked at the "dumb" clock on my stove, which still had the right time. Who labeled those phones as "smart" anyway?

X2! What's a half hour going to make a difference either way.
Cows don't care what time it is either, come down off the hill to get milked same time everyday no matter what time the clock says.

It is interesting how this has been such a controversial subject for such a long time. It has been a back and forth affair. It has been done away with before, and brought back again. Different groups with different perspectives have been for and against it all along. Agriculturists, historically, have been the ones against it. Retailers have been for it. It has been implemented for the saving of energy etc.

Personally, I have appreciated the extra time (after work) in the warm seasons, but hated how soon it was dark during the fall and winter. It was originally proposed by someone ( I think an entomologist is NZ) that enjoyed extra leisure time in the afternoon.

The controversy has always revolved around the different views, and how each is affected differently.

It may be that splitting the difference would be the solution, and finally put this to bed once and for all.

WOW! Just read the history behind Impressive, amazing how many offspring one animal can sire.
We had a famous race horse living not to far from me, Spectacular Bid .At a farm in Unadilla NY, did a lot of deer hunting around that farm and worked in a bluestone quarry just down the road.. He was #10 in the top 100 US racehorses of the 20th century. Spectacular Bid sired 253 winners, including 47 stakes winners that won more than $19 million.
He was one of the two most used for inbreeding Kentucky Derby winners in the last 50 years
