Qwackers is a teeny bit better today. She is able to get to her food and water on her own and has been eating the mash like a little piggy. I had to wash her face an beak this morning, she was awful crusty from the food. Yesterday she stood up and stretched out her neck and flapped her nubby wings like she was a normal duckling, but then went back to the leaning. So, I know she can straighten it out. Tomorrow I am going to increase the Pred by one more drop. I wanted to ease her into the new medicine. When my youngest son was little he had to take it often for his asthma. He would always say that he felt weird when he had to take it, so I always eased him into in too. It is pretty cold here today, in the 40's, so I have someone stopping by the house to check on her at about 1pm. I didn't want to bring her with me since it is so cold and damp.

Glad to hear she was able to get to her food and water, that was a big concern for me her not being able to eat or drink while you are at work, so that's good to hear, and eating like a lil piggy is wonderful news. That's funny about the food crusted on her lil face, I feed my flock fermented feed which is moist so you can imagine 36 running around with various amts of feed stuck to their bills and beaks. Especially my gander who is huge with ff stuck to his bill, Hope she has a good day and you too.

Thank Miss Lydia, you too!

That was my concern too, but she ate last night on her own, then again for breakfast. Indie and Raj were jealous that she got mash and they didn't, so I made them some too. My Mazuri Waterfowl Starter should be delivered today. I have found a local feed store that is going to try and stock some, if not they will order it for me if it is cheaper that way. According to their website it has ALL of the vitamins required for ducklings. So I'll have to address how to adjust her vitamins once she gets established on the new food.

I don't think I'd cut back on what your doing extra for her even when you get the new feed, only because she is struggling right now, once she is stable and doing really well on her own then start cutting her back till she is completely off her vitamins. She needs the extra help. Of course someone else may say to take her off the extras, I'd just be concerned for a relapse until I saw huge improvement. I would love to see Mazuir water fowl feed here but then again it would be hard for me to feed it only since all my flock eats together. so I guess the Purina Flock raiser will have to be the one. Hope when you get home Qwackers is so much better. We'll be waiting for an update.

I meant to post this link yesterday. After reading this it makes me wonder if Qwackers problem is related to this condition seen in Crested ducks or if it is wry neck. I guess time will only tell...

Wow just read the whole thing, Hard to say for the lay person in observing Qwackers what this is of the 2, lets just hope whatever it is it's works itself out so she can lead a normal duckie. life.

Of the 2 conditions I'm hoping for wry neck. I doubt there is any treatment for the other. I'm still shocked that with this research knowing that almost 50% of the crested ducks are affected they still breed them...Sad to be that greedy:-(
