she probably seen her dead... they seem to understand.
This spring a jake killed a cock that got out. They hated each other and I had put the chicken in a separate coop. One hen was in sight of the deed. The other 2 were around the corner and didn't see him dead. That night the 2 hens were calling for him and the other didn't.

Daisy knows she died. They call hysterically when one goes missing and they don't know why. They do appear to understand death.

I know that dh got wide berth after he butchered the extra Tom when ablyn wouldn't stop hanging close by. Tried shooing him but he loves hanging out with us. He left after his brother got done in. I don't think he was offended by butchering, though.
