Hello, everyone. I apologize if this is the incorrect forum for my thread.
I have a broody Jersey Giant that we have decided to hatch out some eggs with. We decided this without really taking her weight into consideration. She had been sitting on the unfertilized eggs our girls were laying without breaking a single one. I think this might be related to our hens having very strong shells from calcium supplementation. We placed six fertilized Lavender Orpington eggs under her that we purchased and one has broken. I am not sure if this is due to her weight, weak shells, or both. It may also be related to other hens trying to get in the nesting box with her. Do we need to move her? Will it disrupt her broodiness if we do? I don't want to give up on successfully hatching with her!
