Well, it's time to start "doing" and move on from "talking". Our family made some commitments to change a few things in our household back in early fall. One of the outcomes of that was a commitment to start raising "backyard chickens". Our only pets at the time were some fish in a tank, some goldfish in our outdoor pond and one Westie named BINGO. We were on our way to acquiring some new "pets".
This thread will document our journey of building our Urban Homestead chicken coop. I am looking forward to comments, critiques and constructive criticism - ok , any comments will do, just don't bash my Dallas Cowboys ~Sam
To give you some context, here is a rendering I produced back in December 2013 , of our plans for our Urban Homestead . Most of the elements and their placement are set but there is some wiggle room here and there. Currently there are only a few trees, one of the compost bins and a storage shed that will be sold off. The flagstone patio is installed too.

Here is the work we completed on our foundation for the coop this weekend.
CMU block and 2" pavers.
One last look before we get going.
We had already moved a lot of dirt to the coop area to build up for positive drainage so there was not a lot of digging down for the foundation level.
Everyone got into helping out.
The back starter course is all set - lunch break.
And they're all set. One little hiccup encountered but nothing we couldn't correct before setting the pavers next.
Needed some "weight" to set our finished foundation.
Ready for framing to start next Friday.
One last inspection.
