I don't have bielefelders but about a third of my pullets laid their first egg or two on the coop floor. But eventually started using the nest box and never went back.

Look at the size of these Bielefelders! Not yet crowing or laying - hatched in July. Some of the cockerals will be heading to freezer camp with the turkeys next week.

Our Bielefelders are troopers even with all this up and down weather they are still laying eggs, not as many but still eggs.

Mine usually do that, too. But the bielefelders are continuing to lay on the floor. I can't get them to lay in the boxes, even when I show them where to lay. It's frustrating.

I still have 1 pullet and 4 cockerels 2 months old.   Hopefully, the pullet survive this winter and predator.  She won't be laying any egg until March or April.
I do have 4 CL young hens and 7 roosters.  They are 6 months old during Thanks Giving week.  I am pretty disappoint the growth rate of the CL.  They are small and have little to no meat so 5 of roosters will go for soup pot soon.  The plus side is none of them crowing, which make the neigbors happy.
