Pics
I candled the eggs I got from Pocket Farmer on day 10 and they are ALL developing! Go, chickies, go!
Yay!

Jeannette from the ALBC is ready to help out the Barred Hollands as they did with the Buckeyes. She needs a list of breeders and a census of the Barred Hollands we have to work with.

Here is her contact information but she is always on the run and busy and asked if I could help out so please pass this along to anyone you know who may be interested in working as a team. I believe the goal would be to work to bring all of our flocks up to the standard of perfection as well as to promote the breed to bring in more breeders and people who might use the breed for their excellent qualities.

She has been a bit slow to contact me but has stayed with it, I think she's just a very busy person so what I'm going to do is create a listing of breeders and birds. What I need is your full name, location (city and state should be enough), email address for contact information and a listing of the Hollands that you have now, cocks, cockerels, pullets and hens. It would be helpful to include egg color in your flock if they are laying yet and where your flock came from (breeders or hatcheries or whatever lines you know of). I'll take the information and catalog it in a spread sheet or other format so it will make it easier for her. The guidance is helpful but simply working together as a team will benefit the breed I think.

No one should feel they have to join in. This is purely by choice. In the end, I hope to see a larger following for the breed, better and larger flocks with more diversity (translates into vigor/health/fertility) etc etc. and even a possible breed club should a group decide they would like to form one. Anyone from those with 20+ flock to just a trio should be able to contribute.

Thanks
Cathy Hill

This is Jeanette's contact information if anyone wants to contact her personally. I know there are a couple of people here who really have gotten this all started and I'd love for them to be up front on this project, I'm just the annoying one who bugs everyone to get going ;)

Smoothmule,
I have been in touch with Alison Martin at ALBC also. She shared with me similar information as well as a spreadsheet of information that has been gathered up until this time. She said that they would be most interested in the following information:
Name (first and last)
City, State
Contact information (email, phone number or both)
Source of stock or bloodline if known
Breeding stock (Number of breeding birds only-hens/cocks)

If you are interested we might be wise to work on this together provided you are interested in teaming up. Let me know what you think and maybe we can formulate a plan.

That would be great, do you suppose she and Jeanette are aware they have separate contacts, lol
I'm with you, if you already have a database set up, lets get it filled out then. Have you posted this somewhere else? I haven't seen anyone doing anything yet and had been emailing Jeanette in hopes of getting them involved.

Is there already a location to send information to?

I'm in. I just sent a msg to ALBC telling them what I had. My guys are still small. I believe I've got 11 pullets and 10 little roos. I'll was going to wait till they were about 6 months to figure out who to cull. I'll be looking primarily for largest roos and white egg laying hens.

I've read where there were issues with black versus yellow legs. I noticed mine were about 50/50. I've also read barring versus coocoo colloring. What else??

I'd love to number my little guys, start posting pics, and have someone "judge" them for me.

where did you get them?

Are there any Barred Holland breeders in WA State? I ask because I ended up with one from Duane Urch in an assortment, and normally since it's just a one of I'd just send it to the auction (It's a cockerel), but it's looking decent quality and I know they are rare and hard to find, so if there's someone local that can use him for breeding they can have him.
