Hi, My name is Amy and I'm new to this site. I have a Barred Rock rooster and I'm going to attempt hatching eggs this spring. I am wondering if anyone knows what I'll get if I cross the BR rooster with the RIR hens. I've read about other combinations, but haven't stumbled upon this information. Thanks!

Yep, you will get all barred chicks ranging from solid Balck Barred like Barred Rocks( exept the roos would be heterozygous barred and be dark like the hens) , or some that are barred with a bit of red leakage, to some that are nearly red barred similar to crele.

Here's some pictures of what the cross will generate. I have four chicks hatched now of this cross and will be hatching more next month in my third setting of the year.

The ones I've hatched in the past were very good layers of large eggs.

Not as F1s though, they were sports.

As RAREROO said they were a sport much like how the first White Rock's where a sport of the Barred Rock...
