Hi now does anyone have a lavender orpington rooster with a barred rock hen cross? We will be joining our flock for the summer and I am curious to see what the offspring could be.

The reason you got different colors is because BLUE barred birds are different than BLACK barred birds. Blue acts differently than black, because, when crossed with certain colors, can produce more variety in colors, such as khaki, fawn/dun, blue, black, platinum and splash. Blue, black and splash being the usual colors. Fawn, khaki, and platinum are too complicated for me to list off the bat. Those are the colors that most likely popped up with your girls. But because the rooster was BLUE barred, the color patterns were different.
From what I read yes it does matter who’s the Roo and who’s the hen, especially with barring, Lacey traits, etc. That is why this link especially intrigued me because I’m trying this cross next spring! I have read they are an excellent dual purpose bird!!Does it matter which bird is male and which is female?
In this case it will matter if you are trying to accomplish sex links(just barring because lacing pattern is not sex linked)If

Lacing can be sex linked. Silver laced Wyandottes for example, males have lighter colored down, while females have darker coloring. Females also feather faster. The males feather slower. In this case it will matter if you are trying to accomplish sex links(just barring because lacing pattern is not sex linked)
The Lacing pattern is due to the combination of multiple autosomal genes(Melanotic, Pattern, Columbian) none of them are sex linked, but perhaps what you meant to say was that sexing laced wyandottes can be done as chick? Autosexing and Sex linked are quite different termsLacing can be sex linked. Silver laced Wyandottes for example, males have lighter colored down, while females have darker coloring. The terms aren't that much different from each other. View attachment 1338045 We finally got settled to the point that this is exactly the sex linked cross I’m looking for. These are my two favourite breeds. I found a nice roo(tho his tail is very lacking but he’s absolutely massive). And our BR hens are very chunky and 1 egg/day/hen most of 365 days a year.
Should be an interesting mix I can’t wait to see what they produce. And the convince of sex linking sounds fantastic.
Edit:It is hard to see scale but that feeder is like 1.5-2 feet high. These are the biggest chickens I have ever owned by far.
