Chicken math

Chicken math struck again! I found out that the farm I wanted to get a grey silkie has pullets available and I can't drive 1 hour for 1 chicken right? I'll be bringing home 2 silkies tomorrow. I currently have 1 silkie. Think they will get along fairly shortly?

My husband was extremely unhappy when he saw I brought home a trio of cream Legbar chicks yesterday. He just can't see the big picture. It brings me to 18 in the coop. 9 chicks in garage. 3 chicks in a bedroom. And 15 eggs in the incubator. And two eggs under a broody.

Actually, the phrase is: Sacrebleu! roughly translated it means "Oh, gosh darn it!" On the other hand, Savoir-faire describes the ability of an individual that knows how to respond appropriately to any type of situation. Back in the late fifties and early sixties Klondike Kat was always in pursuit of Savoir-faire, a mouse that often would say: "Savoir-Fair is everywhere". The mouse was a thief that would taunt Klondike Kat with that phrase meaning he could not be caught because was always present everywhere all the time. Regardless, yes, I do understand the sentiment you were attempting to convey.

I remember that cartoon too. We are showing our age, I'm afraid.

LOL! yes, n3kms, our age does seem to surface. The show was Tennessee Tuxedo with Deputy Dawg and Klondike Kat. Those were the days! A lot of my friends, and some family members, burned their brains out on LSD and Acid and can't remember the little things like that. That was a time when "growing-Up" was actually fun providing you didn't look for any "quick-fix" replacements or escapes. Viet Nam and drugs took out most of my friends: it is really great to hear from a survivor for there are times when I actually feel very much alone. That was a troubled era.

wewanted 12 chicks, and ended up with 17 in the first batch, all survived. Then we went and got 21 more. LOL.

So for 12 chicks we now got 38.

So yes, the chick math is a tricky thing! :)

I know how everyone feel. I have been trying to reduce the block to 8 chickens in the last 18months with little success.

Chicken math is killing me this year. I ordered 36 from McMurray, 6 layers and 30 meat birds. Well, they sent me 7 layers, 31 meat birds, and the free rare exotic that turned out to be a buff laced polish.

We lost 4 meaties and a pullet (my speckled sussex

) to shipping stress. Even though we were sent extras and I still have more than enough, I got distracted by TSC's chick days. Naturally.

So I decided I needed to replace my lost speckled sussex with a welsummer. Obviously (not really, since I was already given an extra layer, but I digress). And since you can't just buy one I figured I'd get 5 Cornish Xs to replace my meat birds. But for some reason I decided I needed an even 6 cx. At this point I'm just proud of myself for only getting one welsummer.

So if you've kept up with my math thus far I'm currently brooding 33 meat birds and 7 layers, plus a polish cockerel I'll have to sell. My original order was for 30 meaties and 6 layers. None of this is including the 6 girls I've already got out in the coop.

I'm already trying to decide how to expand my coop next year because I know it's going to be a problem when I don't have the room to add more layers as these 13 will max out my coop space. I'm already chicken mathing for next year!
