Chicks gasping for air??

Is it a proper heat lamp or is there any chance that it's coated in teflon?

Some are huddled. The ones that look sleepy or sick. Others are running around making all kinds of chirps and eating and drinking. The ones that are huddled are wgere the heat lamp is pointing. The thermometer is .5 deg off. Put it in cup of ice water and read 32.5deg.

It's a red heat lamp bulb from tractor supply. I have had 6 chicks die from the gasping. The other 31 look happy.

98 degrees is too hot. What size is your brooder? What is the brooder made of? Do they have ventilation?

This is what the OP posted:

They are only a couple days old. Temp is 98 deg. I'm using none slippery linoleum as bedding. I don't have any pics yet I can put some on here later
