Dog Hair everwhere, Help

Gee... that's pretty much what I feed my Sara (GSD). I think hers is called Purina One Healthy Morsels or something like that.

Edited to add.... oh yes, and a smidge of human food.

We use Candidae all life stages formula. We have 4 dogs, all different ages and weight. It's good food, and the price per pound is great for our purposes. We buy the 44 lb bag, and the price comes out around 1.00/lb. We buy the canned food for Sophie which is put in her kong to keep her from eating the house.

Here's their web site. They have a food calculator as well.

Hope that helps

I'm giving about $45.00 to $50.00 a bag for the Eukanuba so if I can afford it I don't mind paying for good food. But if there is something better and cheaper thats always good too. I have had dogs all my life and still don't know what to really look for in the ingredients.

I'd switch to a GRAIN FREE food. For the money you're spending you can find a much better quality than Eukanuba. I don't recommend that brand as it's full of fillers with little value to the dog.

How can you resist the sweet baby face of a GS though?!

Exactly. Sorry, but I'll take the hair over a poodle any day.

I LOVE GSD - they're one of my favorites, BUT alas, I am a clean freak. When I had my Danes I became physically stressed because I couldn't keep my house clean enough for my mental OCD.

I don't want to have an outside dog since I like to cuddle with them so I really had no choice - poodles or ulcers.

I am now having the same problem with the chickens - cleaning and scooping poop a few times a day. People that know me just roll their eyes, but hey, we all have our quirks, right?

Well I raw feed (prey model) for an average of $10-15/week, and I don't even go out of my way to save money on her food! (I know people do it for cheaper!) I just get certain things for her when I shop for us humans!
But not everyone is open to the idea of raw feeding at first. Grain free kibble is good too, that's what I get for my cats. One of them loves raw anything, but the other is picky picky! I think the brand is Solid Gold. If we can't get it (it's at Petco so further drive) we have to go with Purina One from WalMart.

If you're interested in raw feeding there are a few threads around here, and a yahoo group somewhere. There are a lot of ideas out there. I feed prey-model raw which means I try to mimick a "prey animal" for my dog, including bones and organs besides just muscle meat. The only veggies or grains that my dog gets are from table scraps not her regular meals. I personally am a member of dogster and I like their forum http://www.dogster.com/forums/Raw_Food_Diet also http://www.rawmeatybones.com/ and http://leerburg.com/feedingdogs.htm
Some
of the top benenfits include cleaner teeth, less stinky doggy BO, less shedding, and smaller and less poop to clean up or step in! I can say that I've never stepped in my own dog's poop, because it is mainly leftover "bone dust" and it disinigrates in the yard very quickly! For me it's a major plus since I have a large dog to clean up after at the park

I have what my DH calls OCCD - obsessive, compulsive cleaning disorder. Fortunately for me, I have very bad vision. I can't see the dog hair most of the time so it doesn't conflict with the OCCD.
