Empordanesa & Penedesenca - Who has them?

Could be a partridge rock--Likely a partridge of some type and she does not look like an EE

I got this list off MPC... they Claim that it is one of these breeds... and the only partridge that I see here is the Pendesenca....

This chick is not colored like my Partridge Penedesencas, but, I've only seen what I got from MPC.

Out of my order for seven Partridge Penedesencas they sent me two chicks last year, one was white (a rooster who likes to eat duck weed), the other is laying green eggs when they should be dark brown eggs.

I need to take some pictures of my 5.5 week old PP chicks but I would need to separate them from the Cream Legbar chicks. It is also time to set some more eggs. At least I now have the additional roosters I wanted.

wow! That is really frustrating... so I could possibly have a chick that isn't even on the list!! I wish that they accidentally sent me a Cream Legbar!!! I would really love to have one of these and i'm in desperate search for a rumpless tufted Araucana chick(s)

Partridge penedesenca have gray to slate leg color. White can happen but not yellow.

Look into barnvelder chickens.

Will do... thanks!

Looked it up online... and it does look very similar!

I bought a fall special from Sandhill Preservation. There were supposed to be 17 breeds but there were some that weren't on the list that came with them. I ended up with some black leghorns and one or two more that weren't on the list. Most of the birds were nice quality.
One black leghorn pullet turned out to be a nice bird that was surprisingly often broody.

I think I better start selling chicks or turn off the incubator. I have 40 chicks out that are up to 16 days old. 28 sue to hatch next week and I just set 49 more.
Most are Black Penedesencas and a handful of olive eggers from my only non-pene hen.

Where on earth can I get a few Wheatens? They are the only variety I do not have and I would really like to start a few of them!

Thank you for those links! Very informative! I guess that time will tell to see if the chick develops further into a Barnvelder.... I will post pics over the next few weeks and get some more input.

Has anyone else had their Penedesenca eggs hatch later than your other chickens? I think I remember Luann telling me that hers did. I have noticed with my first two hatches this year that they seem to hatch a day or so later than the other chicken eggs they are incubated with. Is it the dark color of the shell?

I haven't noticed that.
My last couple hatches where I knew the temperature was right, they came right at 21 days and a few Ameraucanas hatched right along with them.
If anything, the dark color could cause them to lose weight at a slower rate I'm guessing.

I'm setting 40 New Hampshires and Delaware Whites tomorrow with some Penedesenca eggs. That should be a good comparison.
It's part of a special Slow Foods project.
