Emu egg season Fall of 2013 to 2014

Mine started laying in November. They have 5 in their nest now, 9 total found (we gave some away and one broke) in KY.

because emu chicks require lots of daily exercise to keep from developing splayed legs, finding a breeder who ships is rare.

It's up to my male when he decides to sit, typically they hatch around April. He typically hatches out 8-9 each year.

Rose moved her nest.. I suspect it was because of the nasty cold unexpected weather we had gotten lately.. my husband found two very frozen (split) eggs in it and I picked up a new one this morning.. The storms that came through dropped our temps from the 70's into the 30's day temps (and 20's at night).. plus laid a nice layer of ice over everything... now that the weather has gone back to the 60's and 70's it will be interesting to see if she keeps the new nest or moves back to the old nesting site..

So that's a total of 9 so far:
I have 3 currently in the incubator.. the first two may or may not hatch
I shipped off 3 of her eggs to a member of this board.. (plus two from a local breeder)
disposed of 2 split eggs
and picked up #9 this morning

Tazz layed her first egg of the year on nov 25th 6 eggs so far
I think the cold temps are keeping sid from starting, lots of days 5f or lower.
We are in monroe WI

Rose laid #10 this morning.. the heaviest egg so far
