I'm up to 6 chicks. The cream legbar which is looking to be a pullet. 2 olive eggers, a blue egger, white Marans and what I thought was going to be a dark brahma but sure doesn't look it. Olive egg in with the marans is currently zipping slowly on the wrong end.

All 6 have hatched! Yay!! And now that they’re drying off I actually think it’s 3 black, 2 grey, 1 splash.

Question: since all chicks are out, can I quickly open the incubator to remove the eggshells? Give them more space to move around. I won’t be transferring them to the brooder until tomorrow morning.
I continuously open and close the incubator. Momma Chicken (or duck, or other bird) does not remain completely still while eggs are hatching. I have some that even at hatch they get up for food and water several times a times.

So yes, you may open the incubator. :)

Grats on the hatch!

Some of the chicks are still a bit damp this AM so I’ll move them into the brooder when I’m home from work this evening. I’m a bit paranoid about adding them in with my 5 day-olds so I want to make sure I’m home and I can watch them for a bit.

Any tips for integrating, or should it be a pretty smooth process?

At that age I just stick them in and watch for a bit. None of mine have even really noticed
