Have you considered having a small fountain and using a pump with a filter? Keep the water circulating.

I have a one acre pond. No fish and seldom see any birds.

I have a pond about the same size but we have fish, frogs, and waterfowl. Is there a reason you can't stock your pond with some fish? If it wasn't for the critters in the pond we'd be overrun with mosquitos.

This is what I was thinking. Moving water makes it difficult for the mosquitoes to lay eggs.
