Our peacock, Ducky, is about a year old. he likes to sleep in the chicken coop, he hangs out in the chicken run all day, and he even "talks" to the chickens. There is another older peacock, along with three peahens that sleep on the roof and are not interested in chickens. Ducky does not seem to be interested in running with the other peafowl. does he need to mingle with peafowl or can he stay with his chickens? I don't know if this strange behavior actually matters or not

It really doesn't matter so long as he has companionship. My guess is he will get more social with the older birds as he matures and is large enough to compete with your older male.

It doesn't sound like a problem. If he is happy with the chickens he should be fine. If he ever wants friends of his own kind I am sure he can befriend the other peafowl but he just might not want to. Maybe he wants to be a chicken!
