Rooster picking on the little ones

I have a year + roo and now my 5 weeks old meaties and layers are ready to get out to the big coop

I put 2 meaties yesterday for a good 3 hours and sat in front of them making sure the rooster does not hurt them but he did pick on them a couple of times he even tried to get on one of the hens


Question is can I just get rid of the rooster and let my hens alone till at least one of the rooster in my new patch grow old enough to be the alpha ?

Yes, or keep him seperate till the chicks are bigger.
