Sussex Thread! Post pics of your sussex!

Thanks. That's a good question. I've been trying to figure out whether they are Black Jersey Giants or Black Australorps. At first I thought they were BAs, then I found out that two have yellow feet bottoms, which I've read is JG. But, the other two have the pinkish-white feet bottoms, which is supposed to be BA. As long as they lay me eggs, I don't really care which they turn out to be. Nice looking birds yourself.

Any opinions on my SS? They are 5 months old in these pictures. I absolutely love having them around -- the sweetest chickens. There are 4 pullets and one cockerel. The pullets are just starting to lay.

Hmm. I had one pullet and two roos. I still have one pullet and one roo, and at 12 weeks old, my pullet stilldoes not have this much pink in her comb. I'm voting roo, on this one at least.

ETA: Here is one of my roosters when he was 7 weeks old. You can see the similarities.

I couldn't find a picture of my pullet at that age, but here she is at 11 weeks. Her comb is still very pale.

BUT - that said, your birds are from a different source, no doubt, and perhaps they mature at a different rate.

I guess we'll find out - post when you know for sure so we can all learn!

I will do that. Thanks for the advice and pics. That was the one that I had my eye on too. I thought it looked awfully pink for how young "she" is. I guess we will see.

21 weeks now and no eggs yet, but both seem to be hens.

So, umm, is this a Sussex thread or a Speckled Sussex thread?

The title says Speckled Sussex, but, the post says any Sussex (after all, Sussex come in more colors than most people think) but either way isn't there already an SS thread AND a Sussex general thread?

Pretty birds though.

I wish i still had my Sussex. We had to rehome him due to noise complaints! Here are some fairly recent pics before he left though.
