A Quick and Dirty Guide to Marek's Disease: Things every chicken keeper should know.

:) Straight to the point..
All hatcheries should automatically vaccinate all eggs/chicks for this virus.
Great information thank you for sharing. I especially appreciate the fact that we can prevent passing the virus on with good hygene and I will opp to have my new chicks vaccinated!
I know my flock has Marek's. Reading everything I can on how to manage them. They look great--most of them anyway--but there are two that will definitely need to be culled this week. It's so sad. I'm not against culling and I process them myself, but just knowing what I know now about the lifespan of this virus, it's almost indestructible nature, and the implications for my other birds...sad. Anyway I do appreciate you taking the time to publish this. Blessings upon you.

Well written and a good resource for Mareks!
Well, I never knew! In the many hundreds of BYC post and articles I have read on raising chickens, I’ve never come across information on Marek’s disease. This article is infor And to the point- a must read for every chicken owner.
Marek's is nasty. But it's not the end of the world. Just a different approach to how you manage your flock and tough decisions will have to be made.
