Hi Amber here I live in south central Indiana with my husband Jason our 2 kids Camden (age 7) & Jorgia (age 2) , we have 2 dogs, and 16 chickens.
I am a country girl grew up on farm w/ goats, horses, cows, pigs, dogs, and of course chickens ALL Leghorns.
Needless to say I didn't plan on having any chickens. I decided to go to local Orschlen's farm store (like tsc) to get some dog food. I saw the baby chicks, lady told me they were a week old and she'd sell them to me 1/2 price. I came home with 8 Rhode Island Red Pullets ! My hubbie was not to happy, here we were in the middle of remodeling our home and now he has a couple months to build a coop!!! I replied they are cute and I got them 1/2 price! MY husband built a coop just in the nick of time I put them in their new coop. We went to a flea market (Croy Creek) and bought 4 more hens that were around a year old. I was in a hurry to get eggs! so now 5 months later we have 16 chickens and just this week my broody white rock hatched out 5 babies!! click on hatching 823 up at top of page for updates and pictures!
Our flock consists of :: 1 Delaware, 1 legghorn, 1 barred plymouth rock & 1 white rock, 6 Hatchery Rhode Island reds, ALL hens! & Just recently I went back to Croy Creek and Purchased a Roo he is a beautiful BarnYard Brown Leghorn cross i believe With a great Crow at 5:30 in the morning! Although I haven't been woke up by any cock-a-doodleing!!! So it's fine with me I am a good sleeper. My Husband tells me so! LOL We just recently hatched out 5 babies from our mixed flock!
I thought it would be fun to see how many babies you can find in the pic below!! The answers are on next page click link at top of this page (hatching 823)
