The best, most original coop, and we love that you used materials at hand, leftovers, etc.! That's what we have done here for 24 years on the the DIY restoration of our 'fixer' 250 year old house, the yard, the coops, etc. Well done, you! We tweaked our coop to go with our 18thc. house too! I left a comment earlier with a few more points, most especially using the chicken wire which will not keep predators out. You need 1/2 inch hardware cloth. Also I would have put board walls inside and painted them with scrubbable paint. A window should be added, and you should have a screen of hardware cloth as well. I would never put chicken wire on a run. It's an invitation to predators. A clear plastic courregated roof would have been nice. Chickens could be in the run and not get rained on.

Excellent article! We have used sand in our coop and run since we got our chickens 4 years ago. Your article was correct in every way. We've heard thumbs down on sand from some so-called lady chicken expert and could not disagree more. It's been so easy to keep the coop and run clean everyday and as you say it looks so nice and NO smell!

Cute coop and adorable hens! We JUST added an addition onto our chicken run---Before I read this I decided to paint the ceiling pale blue with clouds. the joists will be the brown of the coop and run and will frame it giving a look of a skylight.
After seeing your lovely photos, I am most definitely going ahead with my own 'sky ceiling'!
